SpaceX went public on June 12, 2026. It priced its IPO at $135 a share the evening before, and
the shares trade on the Nasdaq under the ticker **SPCX**. The stock opened at
$150 and closed its first day at $160.95, up 19.2%. Four months later it is an ordinary listed
stock you can buy through any brokerage that offers US shares. It closed at $146.03 on Friday,
October 16: 8.2% above the IPO price, 9.3% below its first-day close and 30.9% below its June
peak.

## How SPCX has traded since the IPO

*[Chart: SpaceX (SPCX) daily close from its first trading day to October 16: a 31% run in the two sessions after the debut, a slide that bottomed at $108.27 the day after the first earnings report, and a recovery back above the $135 IPO price.]*

The stock has moved in four phases. It ran from its $160.95 first close to $211.39 two sessions later.
It then lost almost half its value from that peak by the close on August 5, the day after its first earnings
report, at $108.27, 19.8% below the IPO price. It recovered through the August lockup expiry and
spent September between about $140 and $155. In early October it ran again, to $171.92 on
October 6, its highest close since June 18, then gave back 15.1% over the next eight sessions.

Here is where the October 16 close of $146.03 sits against the numbers a quote page would show you:

| Compared with | Price | SPCX since |
|---|---:|---:|
| IPO price (June 11) | $135.00 | +8.2% |
| First-day close (June 12) | $160.95 | -9.3% |
| 1 week ago (October 9 close) | $162.57 | -10.2% |
| 1 month ago (September 16 close) | $150.88 | -3.2% |
| All-time high close (June 16) | $211.39 | -30.9% |
| All-time low close (August 5) | $108.27 | +34.9% |

The intraday record is $225.64, also on June 16.

## The lockup expiries

Insiders could not sell when SpaceX listed. Their shares unlock in stages, and buyers have had
to absorb each one. The schedule below comes from the June prospectus as summarized by
[The Motley Fool](https://www.webull.com/news/15349205192942592) and others; the share counts are
approximate, and the filing is the final word.

| When | Shares that can be sold | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| August 6, two days after the first earnings report | Up to about 912 million | Stock rose 6.1% and then 15.8% over August 6 and 7 |
| Price-linked bonus release | Up to about 456 million | Did not trigger: it needed closes at or above $175.50 |
| August 20, September 9, September 24, October 9 | About 320 to 330 million each | Released |
| October 24 (a Saturday, so first tradable October 26) | Up to about 328 million | Scheduled |
| Two full trading days after third-quarter results | Up to about 1.3 billion | Scheduled; results are due October 20, after the close |
| December 8 | The rest of the 180-day lockup | Scheduled |
| About June 2027 | Elon Musk and some other insiders | Separate 366-day lockup |

The August release was the big test: about 912 million shares, more than the entire IPO, became
sellable into a stock that had fallen 13.6% two sessions earlier on its first report. Buyers absorbed it, and SPCX
closed above the IPO price on August 10 for the first time since July 15. We covered
that week as it happened: **[retail never stopped buying SpaceX](/blog/retail-never-stopped-buying-spacex)**
is the setup the morning of the unlock, and **[SpaceX stock sentiment: the score flipped, the
float doubled](/blog/spacex-stock-sentiment)** is what followed. For why the size of the
tradable float moves a stock's price, see [what float is](/learn/what-is-a-low-float-stock).

The next large release is tied to the third-quarter report. SpaceX said it will publish results
after the market closes on Tuesday, October 20, with a webcast at 4:30 p.m. ET
([Tesla North](https://teslanorth.com/2026/10/16/spacex-q3-2026-results-webcast/), citing the
company's investor site). An earnings report is a [catalyst](/learn/what-is-a-catalyst) on its
own; this one also starts the clock on a release of up to about 1.3 billion shares.

## How to buy SpaceX stock

SPCX is a normal Nasdaq listing now, so buying it works the same way as buying any other US
stock. The IPO allocation is long closed, and there is no way to get shares at $135 unless the
market price comes back there.

1. **Use a brokerage account that offers US stocks.** Any broker that offers Nasdaq stocks lists SPCX. If you do
not have an account yet, our guide to [opening one and placing a first trade](/learn/how-to-invest-in-stocks)
   walks through it.
2. **Search for the ticker SPCX.** Not SPCE: that is Virgin Galactic, and the two got confused
often enough in IPO week that we [wrote about the crowd that bought the wrong rocket](/blog/signal-autopsy-the-hype-quantral-didnt-buy).
3. **Choose how much to buy.** One share cost $146.03 at the October 16 close. Many brokers sell
[fractional shares](/learn/how-to-invest-in-stocks#can-i-buy-part-of-a-share), so you can buy
a dollar amount, $25 or $50, instead of a whole share.
4. **Pick an order type.** A market order fills at once at the current price. A limit order
fills only at your price or better, which matters on a stock that has moved 10% in a week more
   than once since June.

**Outside the US**, you need a broker with access to US exchanges. Many international brokers and
some local banks offer it. Expect a currency conversion fee on the way in and out, and a W-8BEN
tax form to fill in before your first US trade. Our guide covers
[which brokers people use in each region](/learn/how-to-invest-in-stocks#which-brokerage-app-is-best-for-a-beginner-it-depends-where-you-live).

These are the mechanics of buying. The decision is yours.

## What the accounts we track said, month by month

SpaceX has been one of the most-discussed names in Quantral since its first day of trading. The
raw crowd and the accounts with a real track record have disagreed about it for most of that time.
Graded below means calls from accounts with more than ten resolved calls, more than half of them
right ([how a track record is graded](/learn/how-a-track-record-is-graded)).

| Month | Month-end close | Month move | All mentions, bullish : bearish | Graded, bullish : bearish |
|---|---:|---:|---:|---:|
| June | $170.86 | +26.6% | 145 : 254 | 8 : 5 |
| July | $108.37 | -36.6% | 84 : 170 | 6 : 19 |
| August | $143.69 | +32.6% | 110 : 131 | 26 : 6 |
| September | $150.86 | +5.0% | 49 : 17 | 6 : 1 |
| October, to date | $146.03 | -3.2% | 55 : 42 | 6 : 4 |

June's move is measured from the $135 IPO price. October's close is October 16; its mentions run
through October 18.

July and August show the split best. The raw crowd was bearish in both. The graded
accounts were bearish three to one in July, while the stock fell 36.6%, and bullish four to one in
August, while it rose 32.6%. Quantral's score follows the graded side, which is why it
[read SpaceX at 19](/blog/signal-autopsy-spacex) in mid-July, at $139.14, and why it flipped to 77
in the days around the first earnings report, while the stock was still near its low. Counting hands would have kept
you bearish through the whole August recovery, and
[credibility weighting](/learn/what-is-a-credibility-score) exists to catch that gap.

Some of the accounts behind those columns, with their SpaceX calls since the IPO:

| Account | Graded calls | Bullish on SPCX | Bearish on SPCX |
|---|---:|---:|---:|
| @PhotonBull | 257 | 11 | 8 |
| @ThematicTrader | 200 | 3 | 0 |
| @CKCapitalxx | 116 | 4 | 2 |
| @cmsinvests | 66 | 6 | 5 |
| @amitisinvesting | 62 | 12 | 1 |

@PhotonBull is the clearest case of the July-to-August turn: 7 bearish calls and 2 bullish
through July, then 9 bullish and 1 bearish from August on.

## Where the read stands now

As of the morning of October 19, SpaceX carries a 7-day score of 64, cooler than the 76 it read in
mid-August. Since September the accounts we track have leaned bullish overall, 104 bullish
mentions to 59 bearish, but the platforms split: on X the calls ran 62 bullish to 10 bearish, on
Reddit 33 bullish to 46 bearish. The last seven days were quieter and leaned the other way, 28
mentions, 10 bullish and 14 bearish, most of the bearish ones Reddit replies doubting the entry
price and the valuation after the pullback from $171.92.

The score reads which way the accounts with a record lean going into the report and the unlock
after it, and it makes no forecast for either. Right now that lean lands on the positive side, and
it is thin: graded accounts made one directional call on SPCX in the last seven days. The dated snapshot of this conversation is on our
[SpaceX stock page](/stocks/SPCX).

## Common questions

### When did SpaceX go public?

SpaceX priced its IPO on June 11, 2026, and its shares started trading on the Nasdaq on Friday,
June 12, 2026, under the ticker SPCX.

### What was the SpaceX IPO price?

$135 a share, set as a fixed price without the usual range. The stock opened at $150 on its first
day and closed at $160.95.

### How much did the SpaceX IPO raise?

About $75 billion from 555.6 million shares, the largest IPO on record. An over-allotment option
on up to 83.3 million more shares could take the total to about $86.25 billion. At $135 a share,
SpaceX was valued at about $1.8 trillion.

### What is SpaceX's stock ticker?

SPCX, on the Nasdaq. Do not confuse it with SPCE, which is Virgin Galactic.

### How do I buy SpaceX stock?

Open or log in to a brokerage account that offers US stocks, search for SPCX, choose a number of
shares or a dollar amount if your broker offers fractional shares, and place a market or limit
order. Outside the US, use a broker with access to US exchanges.

### Can I still buy SpaceX at the IPO price?

No. The $135 price applied only to shares allocated in the offering. Since June 12 SPCX has traded
at the market price, which closed at $146.03 on October 16 and has ranged from $108.27 to $211.39
at the close.

### Is SpaceX stock a good buy?

We do not give buy or sell advice. The evidence we have: the accounts with the best
track records were right to be bearish in July and right to turn bullish in August, and today
their read leans positive at a score of 64, with a large unlock and an earnings report in
the same week.

### When does SpaceX report earnings next?

SpaceX reports third-quarter results after the market close on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
