# Who is Roaring Kitty? Keith Gill, his GameStop trade, and the 2026 hype our best accounts didn't buy

> Roaring Kitty is Keith Gill, the trader who turned a $53,000 GameStop bet into a $48 million screenshot. His posted positions, why no net worth figure holds up, and what the accounts we track said about GME in 2026.

Roaring Kitty is Keith Gill, a former financial educator from Massachusetts who posted his
GameStop position on Reddit from 2019 as u/DeepFuckingValue and on YouTube as Roaring Kitty. His
screenshots took a $53,000 stake to nearly $48 million in January 2021, and his return in
2024 showed a position worth more than $180 million. This is his public record: the timeline,
the positions he posted, and why no net worth figure for him holds up.

His X account posted again on May 11, 2026, after about 16 months of silence. The next day, the
accounts we track spent their GameStop posts on a different story, eBay's rejection of GameStop CEO Ryan
Cohen's takeover bid, and the mentions that took a side ran 8 bearish to 1 bullish. Some of our
best graded accounts had stayed off the bull side of that bid since the day it leaked, and
GameStop closed May 20% below its May 1 close.

## Who is Roaring Kitty?

Roaring Kitty is the YouTube and X name of Keith Gill. The facts on public record:

- **Background:** born in 1986 and raised in Brockton, Massachusetts. He ran track at Stonehill
College and graduated in 2009 with an accounting degree.
- **Work:** he joined MassMutual in April 2019 in a financial education role and was a
registered broker. He resigned on January 28, 2021, the day Reuters named him as the man
 behind the posts.
- **Accounts:** u/DeepFuckingValue on Reddit, Roaring Kitty on YouTube, and
 [@TheRoaringKitty](https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty) on X.
- **On screen:** Paul Dano played him in *Dumb Money* (2023).

Every position and dollar figure below comes from his own screenshots unless a filing or a
news report says otherwise. Screenshots are his claims, not audited records.

## Roaring Kitty and GameStop: the timeline

The trade ran in two acts, three years apart. GameStop prices are daily closes, and the 2024
figures are after the company's 2022 four-for-one stock split.

| When | What happened | GME |
|---|---|---:|
|
| First r/wallstreetbets screenshot: about $53,000 in GameStop shares and calls | |
|
| His screenshots show the position worth nearly $48 million | |
|
| Down $15 million in a day; the WSJ confirms about $33 million in his accounts | |
|
| Testifies to the House Financial Services Committee: "I like the stock" | |
|
| Last Reddit update of the first run: exercises his calls, shows 200,000 shares (pre-split), then goes quiet for three years | |
|
| First X post in three years: a meme of a gamer leaning forward | $17.46 (May 10) |
|
| GameStop closes up 74% | $30.45 |
|
| Reddit screenshot: 5 million shares plus 120,000 call options, $20 strike, June 21 expiry | $23.14 (May 31) |
|
| The WSJ reports E\*Trade is weighing whether to drop him as a client | |
|
| GameStop closes up 47% | $46.55 |
|
| His first livestream in three years, the morning GameStop reports early and files to sell more stock | $28.22, down 39% |
|
| New screenshot: 9.001 million shares, no options, about $6 million cash | $29.12 |
|
| A 13G filing shows about 9 million Chewy shares, 6.6% of the class | |
|
| A filing shows he had sold the whole Chewy stake by September 30 | |
|
| After the close, posts appear on his X account and vanish within an hour; GameStop jumps as much as 13% after hours | $23.17 |

He made the case in public long before it paid. Between the 2019 screenshot and the January
2021 [short squeeze](/learn/what-is-a-short-squeeze), he posted Reddit updates and more than
250 hours of YouTube videos, by Massachusetts regulators' count, walking through his
spreadsheets. When the stock took off, you could scroll back through all of it, and that
history is a big part of why people believed the screenshots.

## Roaring Kitty net worth: what he posted, not what he has

There is no verified Keith Gill net worth. Any figure you see is a guess built on his old
screenshots. The largest numbers he has shown are brokerage positions:

| Date | What the screenshot showed | Value at the time |
|---|---|---:|
|
| The GameStop position that started at about $53,000 | nearly $48 million |
|
| 5 million shares | $115.7 million at the May 31 close |
|
| 120,000 calls at a $20 strike, expiring June 21 | $65.7 million |
|
| 9.001 million shares and about $6 million cash | about $262 million in shares at the June 13 close |

Reuters reported the June 2 screenshot and said it could not verify it. Counting the calls at
the stock's June 6 close of $46.55, the June 2 position was worth about $550 million on paper
that day, our arithmetic on his screenshot. The 13G filing adds a second holding: about
9 million Chewy shares, worth about $245 million when he disclosed them in July 2024, all sold
by the end of that September.

A screenshot shows one account on one day and leaves out taxes, other accounts, debts and
anything he sold afterwards, so none of these figures is a net worth. He has not posted a
GameStop position since June 13, 2024.

## How much did Roaring Kitty make?

Nobody outside his brokerage knows the total. The two runs, by his own posts:

- **2019 to 2021:** about $53,000 in GameStop shares and calls turned into a position worth
nearly $48 million at the January 2021 peak. Two days later, after a $15 million drop, the
WSJ put his accounts at about $33 million. He kept holding and added shares into April.
- **2024:** we know what he held, not what he sold for. Between June 2 and June 13 the 120,000
calls left his account and his share count rose from 5 million to 9.001 million, so he
exercised calls, sold them, bought shares, or some mix. Reuters could not tell which.

The total over both runs depends on sale prices he never posted, so any headline figure for
what Keith Gill made is an estimate.

## Roaring Kitty and the regulators

He has faced questions in each run and, on the public record, no charges:

- **2021:** he told Congress he "did not solicit anyone to buy or sell the stock" for his own
profit. Massachusetts regulators looked at his former employer, and in September 2021
MassMutual's broker unit paid a $4 million fine for failing to supervise agents, Gill among
 them.
- **2024:** the Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth confirmed it was looking at his
trading, and E\*Trade weighed whether to keep him as a client. Neither has announced a
public outcome. His June 13 screenshot still came from an E\*Trade account.
- **The lawsuit:** a GameStop shareholder filed a proposed securities fraud class action
against him in New York in late June 2024. The plaintiff withdrew it within days, without
 prejudice, before any court ruled.

## Roaring Kitty on Twitter (X) in 2026

His X handle is [@TheRoaringKitty](https://x.com/TheRoaringKitty). On May 11, 2026, after about
16 months without a post, the account put up a cat image and a Pepe the Frog in his red
bandanna, and crypto outlets reported a Solana meme coin address. Bloomberg reported that
GameStop rose as much as 13% after hours before the posts disappeared at about 5:40 p.m. New
York time. Many traders said the account looked hacked. Gill has not commented, and we found no
confirmed post from him since.

## What the accounts we track said about GameStop in May

Quantral does not track or grade Keith Gill: his accounts have posted almost nothing since 2024, and a deleted post
is not a call we can score. We do track GameStop. From May 1 to May 29, 2026,
GME drew 68 mentions from 63 accounts we track, most of them in r/wallstreetbets threads, and
the ones that took a side ran 20 bearish to 10 bullish.

*[Chart: GameStop mentions across the accounts Quantral tracks, May 1 to May 29, 2026, by New York day. Green is bullish, red bearish. The chart total also counts 8 posts that named GameStop only in passing, which the 68 in the text leaves out. May 4 is Ryan Cohen's CNBC interview on the eBay bid, when GME fell 10%; May 12 is eBay's rejection, the morning after the Roaring Kitty posts.]*

In the accounts we track, the Kitty posts drew almost no discussion. The busy days were about Cohen's bid
for eBay, a $56 billion cash-and-stock offer for a company about four times GameStop's size:

| Account | When | What they posted |
|---|---|---|
| @amitisinvesting |
| Shared the WSJ report and asked whether an $11 billion company buying a $46 billion one made sense, given Cohen's record of raising cash by issuing stock |
| @ren_stocks |
| "This is the most 2021 thing to happen in 2026" |
| @DeepValueBagger |
| Bearish twice: no prior talks with eBay, a target he called six times larger, and a bid that read to him like an exit for Cohen |
| @DeepValueBagger |
| Bearish again after the rejection: "stay away from meme stocks" |

amitisinvesting and ren_stocks rank in our top 20 by track record, and neither took the bull
side. DeepValueBagger ranks in our top third. On r/wallstreetbets the same week, the loudest
GameStop threads were jokes about Cohen telling CNBC the details were "on the website."

On May 12, the morning after the Kitty posts, eBay's board called the bid "neither credible nor
attractive." That day GME drew 20 mentions across the accounts we track: 8 bearish, 1 bullish,
the rest chatter.

*[Chart: GameStop daily closes, April 30 to May 29, 2026. The WSJ report lifted it to $26.53 on May 1; it closed May at $21.18.]*

GameStop closed at $26.53 on May 1, the day of the WSJ report. It closed May at $21.18, down
20%, and kept sliding to $17.87 on August 28, down 33% from the May 1 close. The after-hours
pop on the Kitty posts was gone by the next close: $22.37 on May 12, down 3% on the day.

## The autumn bull case came with filings

The autumn rally had buying behind it that you can check. Ryan Cohen bought $20.4 million
of stock at $20.38 on September 10 and $26.4 million at $22.94 on September 21, as
**[our read of the biggest CEO buys](/blog/ceo-buying-stock)** covered. He filed three more
buys by October 13, the last for $22.8 million at $26.98.

On October 1, [mkfilko](/voices/mkfilko), who ranks in our top 20 by track record, posted a
fundamentals case: GameStop had gone from a $381 million net loss in 2021 to $418 million of net
income, and collectibles were now 45.1% of net sales. Those are his figures from the company's
reports. GameStop closed at $24.11 that day and at $28.02 on October 15, its best close of the
year so far and 57% above the year's lowest close on August 28. It closed at $25.39 on
October 22.

Put the two halves of 2026 side by side. The May hype had a famous name and a deal eBay would
not take, and our best graded accounts stayed off it while GameStop fell 20% that month. The
autumn bull case had the CEO's own filed buys and a fundamentals post from a top-20 account
behind it.

## The record is the point

Keith Gill's story lasts because he posted the receipts. Two years of public updates
sat behind the 2021 screenshots, and that history is why so many people believed the 2024
ones. A deleted post with a meme coin address has none of it.

You can hold any account to the same standard. **[How to verify a track
record](/learn/how-to-verify-a-track-record)** walks through it, and
**[what a meme stock is](/learn/what-is-a-meme-stock)** covers why names like GameStop move on
attention. In the Quantral app, every GameStop call from the accounts we track is graded as it
resolves, so before the next spike you can see whose read has held up.

## Roaring Kitty FAQ

### Who is Roaring Kitty?

Roaring Kitty is Keith Gill, a former MassMutual financial educator from Brockton,
Massachusetts. He posted his GameStop position on Reddit as u/DeepFuckingValue from 2019 and
made videos about it as Roaring Kitty on YouTube. His bet became the face of the January 2021
GameStop short squeeze.

### What is Keith Gill's net worth?

There is no verified figure. His largest posted positions were about $48 million in January
2021 and, in June 2024, 5 million GameStop shares plus 120,000 call options, with the shares
worth $115.7 million at the May 31, 2024 close. His June 13, 2024 screenshot showed 9.001
million shares, about $262 million at that day's close, and he also held a Chewy stake worth
about $245 million that he sold by September 30, 2024. Those are positions on given days, not
net worth.

### How much did Keith Gill make on GameStop?

He has never posted a total. His screenshots took about $53,000 to nearly $48 million at the
January 2021 peak, and the WSJ confirmed about $33 million in his accounts after the January 29
drop. For 2024 he showed what he held but not his sale prices, so any profit figure is an
estimate.

### What is Roaring Kitty's Twitter (X) handle?

@TheRoaringKitty. His Reddit account is u/DeepFuckingValue and his YouTube channel is Roaring
Kitty. After about 16 months without a post, the X account posted on May 11, 2026, and those
posts were gone within an hour.

### Is Roaring Kitty still in GameStop?

We don't know. His last posted position, on June 13, 2024, showed 9.001 million GameStop
shares. He has posted no update since, so any claim that he still holds them is a guess.

### Was Roaring Kitty charged with anything?

No charges have been made public. A proposed class action filed against him in June 2024 was
withdrawn within days, and the 2024 Massachusetts inquiry has announced no outcome. In 2021,
his former employer's broker unit paid a $4 million Massachusetts fine for failing to supervise
him and other agents.
