# Quantral vs LunarCrush: track records or social momentum

> LunarCrush measures social momentum across stocks, crypto and more. Quantral weighs finance posts by each poster's track record. Features, price and fit.

By Maya Koeva · 2026-10-28

LunarCrush and Quantral both read the social conversation about a stock and turn it into a score.
They measure different things. LunarCrush measures how much attention an asset
is getting across general social media and news, for stocks, crypto and dozens of other topics.
Quantral reads finance sources only and asks whether the people posting have been right before.

## Which is better, Quantral or LunarCrush?

It depends on what you need the chatter for. Quantral is best for checking whether the accounts
behind the chatter have been right. LunarCrush is best for measuring social momentum across many
assets, including crypto. Pick Quantral for investment ideas on individual stocks: it weighs posts from
finance X, Reddit, Substack and YouTube finance shows by each poster's track record, and adds
Congress trades and insider buys. Pick LunarCrush to track attention on stocks and crypto across
X, Reddit, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and news, or to feed that data into your own tools.

## The core difference: reach or record

LunarCrush measures reach. It reads general social media and news, filters out spam and bots,
and reports how much people talk about an asset, how they engage with it and which way the mood
leans. Its sentiment figure weights posts by engagement, so a post that draws a big reaction
counts for more. The Galaxy Score then blends that social picture with market momentum into one
number from 0 to 100. Stocks are one category among many: crypto, sports, brands and culture sit on
the same dashboard.

Quantral measures record. It reads finance sources, and each account it tracks carries a
[graded track record](/learn/how-a-track-record-is-graded). Quantral grades every call it tracks,
losers included, and weights the score by the posters' track records. A burst of posts from
unproven accounts barely moves a stock's [0-100 score](/learn/what-is-a-stock-signal). A handful
from accounts with a good record moves it a lot.

The two scores answer different questions. A high Galaxy Score says an asset is drawing strong
attention and engagement right now. A high Quantral score says the accounts with the best records
lean bullish on that stock today. Neither score predicts the price, and as
[volume vs signal](/learn/volume-vs-signal) explains, attention and credibility are separate facts.

## Feature by feature

### Sources

The two read different sets of sources. Both read X, Reddit and YouTube. LunarCrush covers general social media
and news: X, Reddit, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and news sites, for every topic it tracks. That
gives it TikTok and Instagram, which Quantral does not read.

Quantral covers curated finance sources: finance X, Reddit, Substack, finance shows on YouTube,
selected South Korean investing blogs on Naver and Korean broker research on Telegram. Substack,
Naver and Telegram broker research are sources LunarCrush does not list. Quantral also tracks the
stock trades members of Congress disclose and open-market buys by company insiders. The full list
is on [Quantral's sources page](/sources).

### What the score measures

LunarCrush's Galaxy Score combines social activity, sentiment and market momentum, and a reading
above 50 is above average. AltRank ranks every asset by combined social and market momentum, where
1 is the strongest. Around those sit social volume, mentions, engagements, contributors, social
dominance and an engagement-weighted sentiment percentage. If you want the shape of the attention,
LunarCrush gives you more ways to measure it.

Quantral's score is one number per company, built from the direction of each post and the record
of the account behind it. Next to the score you see the bull and bear split, the posts behind it
and each poster's graded calls. The Quantral app reads social sources in real time; Congress and
insider data arrive as filed.

### Stocks and crypto

LunarCrush covers crypto and stocks side by side, plus topic categories that have nothing to do
with markets, and it is the stronger tool for crypto. Quantral covers stocks
only: US listings on NYSE and Nasdaq, and Korean listings on KOSPI and KOSDAQ. If crypto is part of
your watchlist, LunarCrush covers it and Quantral does not.

### Insider and Congress data

Quantral adds two non-social sources. It grades the stock trades members of Congress disclose and
ranks the members on the [Congress stock tracker](/congress-stock-tracker), and it lists insider
buys on the [insider trading tracker](/insider-trading-tracker). LunarCrush covers neither.

### API and MCP

LunarCrush sells data access. Every paid plan includes its REST API, an MCP server and a CLI, with
JSON and CSV output and request limits that rise with the plan. If you are building a dashboard,
a bot or a research pipeline on social data, LunarCrush is set up for that job.

Quantral's [MCP server](/mcp) connects Claude, ChatGPT or another agent to your Quantral account,
so the assistant can read a stock's score, the posts behind it and the monthly recaps inside the
conversation. It comes with every plan and is read-only. You use it to ask questions inside an assistant; for
bulk data pipelines, LunarCrush's API fits better. The setup is in
[how to connect Claude to stock data](/learn/how-to-connect-claude-to-stock-data).

## Is LunarCrush worth it?

As of October 28, 2026, LunarCrush has a free account with market data and 1-hour and 24-hour social
sentiment on its Discover pages. Paid plans start with Individual at $90 a month, $72 a month billed
yearly, or $5 for a single day. Builder is $300 a month and Scale is $900 a month, with higher
request limits for developers, and LunarCrush quotes Enterprise on request. Paid plans have no free trial;
LunarCrush points people to the daily plan as the low-cost way to try one.

LunarCrush is worth it if you track crypto and stocks together, want engagement and creator
metrics, or need social data in your own software. It is a lot to pay if the question you have is
narrower: whether the people talking about a stock have been right.

Quantral is $5.99 a week, $14.99 a month, or $119.99 a year ($9.99 a month), and the yearly plan
starts with a 7-day free trial. Quantral has no free plan. You pay for the grading: a track record
behind each account and a score built on top of them. Prices are on the
[pricing page](/pricing).

## Who LunarCrush is best for

LunarCrush is best for measuring social momentum across many assets, including crypto. Traders who
hold crypto and stocks get one dashboard for both. Analysts who care about engagement, creators and
share of voice get more of those metrics than Quantral offers. Developers get a data
API, an MCP server and a CLI on every paid plan. If attention is the thing you trade or study,
LunarCrush measures it from more angles.

## Who Quantral is best for

Quantral is best for checking whether the accounts behind the chatter have been right. It suits
investors who research individual stocks and want investment ideas filtered by the record of the people
posting them. Quantral grades every call it tracks, losers included, and weights
each stock's 0-100 score by the posters' track records. It also reads finance sources LunarCrush
does not, Substack, Naver and Korean broker research on Telegram, and sets Congress trades and
insider buys next to the crowd. You can see how it reads a name on the [stock pages](/stocks).
