Korean insider buying is now in Quantral, in English

Korean insider buys are in Quantral. When an executive, a director or a major shareholder of a KOSPI or KOSDAQ company buys its stock on the market, the app shows you who bought, their role, how much they spent and at what price, in English. The buys sit on the company page next to what finance X, Reddit, Substack and Korean blogs on Naver are saying, and they count toward the company's score.
You get two years of history from day one: 4,224 insider buys at 1,046 Korean companies, worth ₩838 billion in all. They include the chairman of SK Hynix putting ₩4.9 billion into the stock on the day it closed at its July low.
Korea's insider filings, in English
Korean executives and major shareholders have to report their trades in their own company's stock. The filings land on DART, the Financial Supervisory Service's disclosure system, in Korean: names in Hangul, roles in Korean titles, amounts in won, mixed in with stock grants, inheritance transfers and every other change in a holding.
Quantral reads them so you don't have to, and shows the open-market purchases: the trades where an insider paid the market price with their own money. Each one comes with the buyer's name in English, their role, the amount and the price, and a link to the original filing on DART. For how to read a buy, from its size to a cluster of insiders buying together, see what is insider buying.
What you see in the app
- A card for every buy in your feed and on the company page, in English: "Roh Tae-moon (CEO, president) bought ₩700M of 005930 (Samsung Electronics) at ₩230,000."
- One card per cluster. When ten Samsung executives file on the same day, you get one card with the biggest buyers named and the rest counted.
- Korea and the US side by side. Korean buys and US insider buys sit in the same Insiders source, so an SK Hynix executive and a Micron director buying the same week show up in the same place.
- Part of the score. Each buy feeds the company's 0 to 100 score, alongside the crowd on X, Reddit, Substack and Naver.
Samsung and SK Hynix insiders bought the July slump
Samsung Electronics executives were buying before the slump: on July 21, ten of them filed ₩1.9 billion of purchases between them, led by two presidents, Choi Yoon-ho at ₩890 million and Ahn Joong-hyun at ₩450 million.
Then the Korean chip stocks sold off. SK Hynix fell from ₩1,816,000 on July 27 to ₩1,322,000 on July 30, down 27% in three sessions, and Samsung Electronics went from ₩254,000 to ₩207,000. On July 30, the closing low of the slump for both, Samsung CEO Roh Tae-moon bought ₩700 million of his company's stock and SK Hynix chairman Chey Tae-won bought ₩4.9 billion of his.
Some of the Korean insider buys Quantral has shown since July. Prices are the average paid per share; the last column compares the September 29 close with that price.
| Company | Buyer | Filed | Bought | Price paid | Since the buy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
SK HynixKOSPI 000660 | Chey Tae-won, chairman | Jul 31 | ₩4.9B | ₩1,353,677 | 30.4% |
Samsung ElectronicsKOSPI 005930 | Roh Tae-moon, CEO and president | Jul 31 | ₩700M | ₩230,000 | 18.5% |
LG InnotekKOSPI 011070 | Moon Hyuk-soo, CEO | Jul 24 | ₩124M | ₩620,000 | 5.6% |
LG ChemKOSPI 051910 | Kim Dong-chun, CEO and president | Aug 5 | ₩107M | ₩250,122 | 0.0% |
SK HynixKOSPI 000660 | Jeong Inchul, executive | Sep 22 | ₩239M | ₩1,682,000 | 4.9% |
A CEO's buy is one signal among several. The chairman's SK Hynix purchase is up 30% on the rebound from the July low, while LG Innotek's CEO is still underwater two months on.
Amorepacific: executives buying four weeks running
At Amorepacific, the cosmetics maker, executives filed purchases four weeks in a row in September: three on September 2, four on September 9, seventeen on September 16 led by CEO Kim Seunghwan at ₩346 million, and ten more on September 23. That makes 34 purchases worth ₩2.1 billion in a month, the kind of cluster that carries more weight than any single buy.
September by the numbers
Filed from September 1 to 29:
- 145 insider buys at 103 Korean companies, worth ₩28.7 billion.
- 60 of them involved a CEO.
- 16 were clusters, two or more insiders at one company filing on the same day.
