From January to mid-April, 48 of the 59 posts about POET in the feeds we follow came from accounts with a graded record. All 45 of their directional calls were bullish, made with the stock at $5.08 to $8.30.
Then POET moved: up 108% in the week of April 20, down 47% on April 27, and up to a $20.57 close on May 14. Below are the price, the news behind each move, the accounts that were early, and what to watch before the November 16 report.
POET stock price: the April run, the crash and the May peak
POET Technologies designs photonic integrated circuits, light sources and optical modules, the parts that move data as light inside AI data centers, according to its second-quarter report. Revenue is small so far: $569,925 in the quarter, against an $11.3 million net loss.
| Date | POET close | Move |
|---|---|---|
| April 17 | $7.26 | |
| April 24 | $15.10 | 108% in a week |
| April 27 | $7.95 | 47% in a day |
| May 4 | $7.11 | |
| May 14 | $20.57 | 189% in eight sessions |
| October 29 | $5.66 | 72% from the peak |
Three news events explain the three moves.
- The April run. On April 14 the short seller Wolfpack Research published a report calling POET a stock promotion, and POET closed 8% lower. It rose 18% on April 20 as the company answered the report, and Dow Jones tied the rest of the week to talk of partnerships with the largest cloud companies, reported by Stocktwits and Tiger Brokers.
- The April 27 crash. Before the open, POET announced that Marvell, which had bought POET's customer Celestial AI, had cancelled all of Celestial AI's purchase orders, giving notice on April 23. Marvell said POET had disclosed order and shipping details against its confidentiality obligations.
- The May 14 peak. Before the open, POET signed a supply deal with Lumilens: a $50 million first order that could grow past $500 million over five years, plus warrants for Lumilens to buy 22.92 million POET shares at $8.25 (Motley Fool, Barchart). The next day it raised $400 million from a single institutional investor at $21.00 per share and warrant, and the stock closed 22% lower.
What the graded accounts did before April
Graded here means an account with more than ten resolved calls, more than half of them right (how a track record is graded).
Between January 4 and April 14, five of those accounts posted about POET, and every directional call they made was bullish: 45 to 0. The stock spent those fifteen weeks between $5.08 and $8.37, with the posts averaging a $6.55 close. All 45 came in under the April 24 close of $15.10 and the May 14 close of $20.57.
Most of it came from one account. @Gaetano2026 posted 30 bullish calls, starting on January 4 with a price the account said it would be comfortable buying at, with POET last closing at $7.16. @Kaizen_Investor added 10 from March 11, and @aleabitoreddit 3 from March 6. Four of the five rank in our top 20 by track record.
They stayed bullish through the run, 21 to 0 from April 15 to 26. On April 27, after the cancellation was public and the stock had gapped down, 21 graded accounts posted bearish calls, @Gaetano2026 and @Kaizen_Investor among them. That was a reaction to the news, so we don't count it as a call.
The receipts
| Account | Graded calls, all stocks | POET, bull : bear, Jan 4 to Apr 14 | First bullish post | POET close that day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
@Gaetano2026 | 260 | 30 : 0 | January 4 | $7.16 |
@Kaizen_Investor | 363 | 10 : 0 | March 11 | $7.44 |
@aleabitoreddit | 1,532 | 3 : 0 | March 6 | $6.28 |
@KawzInvests | 396 | 1 : 0 | February 2 | $5.84 |
@ThematicTrader | 996 | 1 : 0 | March 3 | $7.04 |
Measured to October 29, 42 of the 45 calls came with POET above $5.66, so an investor who bought on them in January and held is down about a fifth. The gain was there to take in late April and mid-May, and the Quantral app grades every call it tracks, losers included, so each account's record sits next to its posts.
POET also tops the table of WSB's best graded calls in our r/wallstreetbets accuracy study, at +50% over 7 days.
When the volume showed up
From January 4 to April 19, POET drew no more than nine mentions a week from the accounts we track. The two loudest days of the spring were the news days:
- April 27: 32 mentions, 26 of them bearish, all on X from 24 accounts, on the day of the cancellation and the 47% drop.
- May 14: 55 mentions, 27 bullish and 15 bearish, on the day of the Lumilens deal and the peak close. 44 of them came from r/wallstreetbets.
Across April and May the split was X 104 mentions from 35 accounts and r/wallstreetbets 95. The mention counts rose with the news. The five graded accounts above had posted their 45 bullish calls weeks before either day.
POET stock forecast: what to watch into November 16
We don't publish price targets. What the accounts we track say is the useful part, and this month they have said little: 9 mentions from September 30 to October 29, 4 bullish and 2 bearish, with no directional call from a graded account. POET's 7-day score on the morning of October 30 is 49, a neutral reading. Nine mentions is below the 20 we want before calling a direction, so this page doesn't give one. Treat October as a quiet month in the feeds we follow.
POET lost 26% in the month to October 29 and sits 72% under its May peak. Three things to watch:
- Q3 results, November 16 at 7:00 a.m. ET. POET confirmed the date on October 16 and plans to start quarterly calls with the fourth-quarter report.
- The optical engine ramp. Management said in August that production is on schedule for the second half of 2026. Q3 revenue will show whether it has started.
- Lumilens orders. The $500 million figure depends on Lumilens ordering beyond the first $50 million. Any follow-on order in the Q3 report counts toward it.
