Waymo stock is Alphabet stock. Waymo is a private company, and the way to own it on a stock exchange is through Alphabet, its majority owner, which trades on the Nasdaq as GOOGL (Class A) and GOOG (Class C). GOOGL closed at $320.21 on October 23.

Among the accounts we track, Waymo is a side note in the Alphabet story: it came up in 29 of 2,099 Alphabet mentions this year. The call that mattered was on Alphabet itself: the accounts with a real track record stayed bullish through a 20% slide in February and March, and GOOGL went on to its record close in May.

What is the Waymo stock symbol?

The symbols to look up are GOOGL and GOOG, Alphabet's two traded share classes. Waymo has no ticker of its own because its shares are not listed anywhere.

Share classTickerVotes per shareWhere it trades
Alphabet Class AGOOGL1Nasdaq
Alphabet Class CGOOGNoneNasdaq
Alphabet Class BNone10Not traded, held mostly by the founders and insiders

Both traded classes own the same company, Waymo included, and their prices move almost in step. GOOGL closed at $320.21 on October 23 and GOOG at $317.28. For a small holder the vote counts for little, so either class gives you the same piece of Waymo. If you hold a Nasdaq-100 fund such as QQQM, you already own both: our QQQM guide shows Alphabet as the fund's fourth-largest company.

Is Waymo public, and will it IPO?

No, Waymo is not public. It started as Google's self-driving car project and became a separate company under Alphabet in December 2016. It has raised money from outside investors several times since, always privately.

Neither Waymo nor Alphabet has announced an IPO or a spin-off. When Waymo raised money in February, the Associated Press noted that the new valuation could feed the recurring talk of an eventual IPO. Neither company has turned that talk into a plan: there is no filing, no date and no price. If you searched for a Waymo IPO date or a pre-IPO price, there is none to find.

Who owns Waymo?

Alphabet does, as its majority investor. Alphabet has not published its exact percentage. The rest belongs to outside investors who bought in through private funding rounds. The February 2026 round alone brought in:

  • Leads: Dragoneer Investment Group, DST Global and Sequoia Capital.
  • Also investing: Andreessen Horowitz, Mubadala Capital, Bessemer Venture Partners, Silver Lake, Tiger Global and T. Rowe Price.
  • Further investors: BDT & MSD Partners, CapitalG, Fidelity, GV, Kleiner Perkins, Perry Creek Capital and Temasek.

Alphabet put money into that round too. Bloomberg reported Alphabet's share at $13 billion of the $16 billion; Waymo confirmed its parent took part but did not give terms. You can't buy any of these stakes on an exchange, so for you the only door in is Alphabet.

Waymo's valuation and funding

RoundRaisedValuation
October 2024$5.6 billionAbout $45 billion
February 2026$16 billion$126 billion

The February round nearly tripled Waymo's value in less than two years, according to Reuters. In the same announcement, Waymo said it gave 15 million rides in 2025, triple the year before, and was giving 400,000 rides a week across six US metro areas.

The investors in one private round set that $126 billion price. You can't trade at it, and it covers a small piece of what you pay for when you buy Alphabet.

How big Waymo is inside Alphabet

Alphabet doesn't report Waymo on its own. Waymo sits inside Other Bets, the segment for Alphabet's newer businesses. From Alphabet's latest quarterly filing, for the second quarter of 2026:

Q2 2026Other BetsAlphabet total
Revenue$382 million$119.8 billion
Operating income (loss)About $(1.8) billion$40.8 billion

Other Bets brought in about 0.3% of Alphabet's revenue and lost money, as it did in the first quarter. Its loss grew by $553 million from a year earlier, which the filing puts down mostly to higher employee pay. Google Search, YouTube and Google Cloud earn the money that pays for it.

A share of Alphabet today buys you mostly search, cloud and AI, with Waymo as a small extra. Alphabet's third-quarter report will update these figures.

How to buy Waymo stock

Buying Waymo means buying Alphabet, the same way you buy any US stock:

  1. Open or log in to a brokerage account that offers US stocks.
  2. Search for GOOGL (Class A, with votes) or GOOG (Class C, no votes).
  3. Pick a number of shares, or a dollar amount if your broker sells fractional shares.
  4. Place a market order (fills now) or a limit order (fills only at your price or better).

Outside the US, you need a broker with access to US exchanges. If you would rather hold Alphabet as part of a basket, any Nasdaq-100 or S&P 500 index fund owns it. If you are new to placing orders, start with how to invest in stocks.

Public robotaxi stocks

These listed companies compete with Waymo or work with it. None of them owns it.

  • Tesla (TSLA) runs its own robotaxi service and sells cars, batteries and energy storage.
  • Uber (UBER) offers Waymo rides through its app in some cities, as a partner rather than an owner.
  • Amazon (AMZN) owns Zoox, which builds its own robotaxi.
  • Pony.ai (PONY) and WeRide (WRD) run robotaxi services in China and trade on the Nasdaq.

What the accounts we track say about Alphabet

Quantral scores Alphabet by what the accounts with a real track record say about it. As of the morning of October 26, Alphabet carried a 7-day score of 59, on the positive side. From October 1 to 25, the accounts with a graded track record ran 28 bullish calls to 6 bearish.

Waymo is a small part of that conversation. Of 2,099 Alphabet mentions from January 1 to October 25, 29 brought up Waymo, and 22 of those were bullish. Waymo came up about as often in posts about Uber, 30 times. The graded accounts that did mention it treated it as an extra. Kaizen_Investor, who ranks in our top 20 by track record, listed "Waymo leading the AV race" on September 30 among their reasons to own Alphabet, next to Gemini and YouTube. TheValueist, in our top 10, read Tesla's October 21 call as more competition for Waymo but small for Alphabet's earnings in the near term. Both views match the filing, where the segment that holds Waymo is about 0.3% of revenue.

Their bigger call was on Alphabet itself. In February they posted 17 bullish calls on Alphabet and no bearish ones, while GOOGL fell 7.8% in the month. The slide kept going: by March 30 GOOGL was down 20.4% from its February 2 close. Through February and March those accounts still ran 20 bullish calls to 1 bearish. GOOGL then rose 40.7% from the March 30 low to the April 30 close, above every February close, and set its record two weeks later. The dated snapshot sits on our Alphabet stock page.
