xAI stock: you buy it as SpaceX (SPCX), and AI is now half the company
By Maya Koeva · October 22, 2026 · 5 min read

You can't buy xAI stock on its own. There is no xAI ticker, because SpaceX acquired xAI in an all-stock deal that closed on February 2, 2026, and xAI's investors were paid in SpaceX shares.
The way to own xAI is to own SpaceX, which trades on the Nasdaq as SPCX. One SPCX share closed at $159.31 on October 21, and AI is now the biggest part of what it sells: $7.6 billion of SpaceX's $14.6 billion third-quarter revenue.
What happened to xAI
| Deal | SpaceX acquired xAI in an all-stock deal |
| Closed | February 2, 2026 |
| Reported value of xAI | About $250 billion |
| Reported value of SpaceX | About $1 trillion |
| Combined | About $1.25 trillion |
| What xAI shareholders got | SpaceX shares |
The valuations are from Bloomberg and Reuters reporting, as summarized by KeepTrack. xAI no longer exists as a separate company with its own shareholders. Four months after the deal, on June 12, SpaceX listed on the Nasdaq at $135 a share. That made the combined company, xAI included, a public stock anyone with a brokerage account can buy. The IPO facts are in our SpaceX IPO guide.
What xAI is now, inside SpaceX
Three things came with xAI:
- Grok, the chatbot and the models behind it.
- X, the social network that used to be Twitter. xAI bought X Corp in March 2025 in an all-stock deal that valued X at $33 billion, so X moved into SpaceX along with xAI.
- The AI business itself, which SpaceX now reports as a segment called Super Intelligence. It used to be called AI.
SpaceX's other two businesses are Connectivity, which is mostly Starlink, and launch. Starlink has no stock of its own either: our Starlink stock page covers that side.
How big AI is in SpaceX's numbers
SpaceX reported its third quarter on October 20, after the close. According to Via Satellite:
| Q3 2026 | Revenue | Change from a year earlier |
|---|---|---|
| Super Intelligence (xAI, Grok) | $7.6 billion | 830% |
| Connectivity (Starlink) | $5.2 billion | 69% |
| SpaceX total | $14.6 billion | 161% |
Super Intelligence brought in more than half of the quarter's revenue and overtook Connectivity as the biggest segment. Via Satellite puts the jump down to cloud services agreements and the Cursor acquisition. SPCX rose 7.8% the next day, from $147.79 to $159.31.
That changes what an SPCX share is. In the second quarter, AI was about a third of SpaceX's $7.8 billion revenue. In the third, it was more than half.
How to buy xAI stock
Buying xAI means buying SPCX. It works like any other US stock:
- Open or log in to a brokerage account that offers US stocks.
- Search for SPCX. Not SPCE, which is Virgin Galactic.
- Pick a number of shares, or a dollar amount if your broker sells fractional shares.
- Place a market order (fills now) or a limit order (fills only at your price or better).
Outside the US, you need a broker with access to US exchanges. The full walkthrough, with the order types and the notes for non-US buyers, is in how to buy SpaceX stock.
If you are looking at the 2x funds that track SPCX instead, read our SpaceX ETF guide first: none of them is a plain way to hold it.
Is there a Grok stock?
No. Grok belongs to SpaceX, through xAI, so there is no Grok ticker and no Grok IPO. SPCX is the only listed stock that owns it.
One more thing you may have read about: on the October 20 call, Elon Musk talked about a possible future merger of SpaceX and Tesla. That is talk. Nothing has been announced or agreed, and today Tesla (TSLA) and SpaceX (SPCX) are separate stocks.
What the accounts we track say about SPCX
Quantral reads SpaceX the way it reads every stock: by what the accounts with a real track record say about it. As of the morning of October 19, SpaceX carried a 7-day score of 64, on the positive side and down from the 76 it read in mid-August.
Those accounts have called the big turns. They ran bearish three to one in July, while the stock fell 36.6%, and bullish four to one in August, while it rose 32.6%. The raw crowd was bearish in both months. The month-by-month table is in what the accounts we track said about SpaceX, and the dated snapshot sits on our SpaceX stock page. Common questions
What is the xAI stock symbol?
There isn't one. xAI is part of SpaceX, whose ticker is SPCX on the Nasdaq.
What is the xAI stock price?
xAI has no price of its own. The closest thing is the SpaceX share price: SPCX closed at $159.31 on October 21, 2026. When SpaceX bought xAI in February, the deal valued xAI at about $250 billion.
Can I buy xAI stock?
Not on its own. You can buy SpaceX (SPCX), which owns xAI, Grok and X, through any brokerage that offers US stocks.
Is xAI public?
Only as part of SpaceX. xAI merged into SpaceX on February 2, 2026, and SpaceX went public on the Nasdaq on June 12, 2026.
Who owns xAI?
SpaceX does. xAI's former investors received SpaceX shares in the all-stock deal. Elon Musk runs SpaceX, and anyone who buys SPCX owns a small piece of the combined company.
Is there a Grok stock?
No. Grok is an xAI product, and xAI is part of SpaceX, so SPCX is the only stock that owns it.
Is xAI stock a good buy?
We don't give buy or sell advice. What we can show you is how the accounts with the best track records read SPCX: a 7-day score of 64 as of October 19, after being right to turn bearish in July and bullish in August.
