Unusual Whales is an options flow platform. It shows large and unusual options trades as they print, dark pool trades, gamma exposure, and a politics section with the stock trades members of Congress disclose. It runs on the web, iOS and Android, and sells its data separately as an API.

Is Unusual Whales worth it?

Yes, if you trade options several times a week and will act on the flow. At $42 to $50 a month for real-time flow, alerts and dark pool data, it costs less than InsiderFinance's $75 monthly plan, and the free tier lets you learn the screens before you pay.

It is a poor fit if you buy stocks and hold them, or if you want to be told what to trade. Flow shows you the size of a bet and leaves out the reason: a big call buy can be a hedge or one leg of a spread. Independent reviews from June and September 2026 say beginners who read the feed as a buy signal end up confused. And if you came for Congress trades, Capitol Trades shows the same filings for free.

Unusual Whales suits you if:

  • You trade options and want real-time flow, sweeps and unusual activity alerts.
  • You watch dark pool prints and gamma exposure (GEX) on index and single-stock options.
  • You want Congress trades and insider trades on the same screen as the flow.

Look elsewhere if:

  • You invest for months or years and do not trade options.
  • You want Congress trades only, or want to know which members are worth following.
  • You need a refund option: the pricing page says all sales are final.

What users say

Unusual Whales holds 4.6 stars from 788 ratings on the US App Store (checked November 3, 2026). Its Trustpilot page had no reviews on the same day.

  • Praised: the depth of data for the price, and a team that ships new features often.
  • Complaints: a steep learning curve for anyone new to options, a mobile app that does less than the website (older App Store reviews name notification settings), and flow that is easy to misread as a signal.
